Upon completing the nine dives of the Cozumel Scuba Fest Routes you will become a Friend of the Reef and member of our network of divers and ambassadors recognized by the Ocean Futures Society.

A Friend of the Reef has the mission to convey in practice and by setting an example, the best methods of safe diving while always being watchful for the care of the environment and protection of our oceans. Your commentaries and active participation are vital in order to increase this important network of environmental ambassadors.

  • Always use biodegradable sun lotions and sun blocks and encourage your fellow divers to do the same.
  • Do not use plastic drinking cups that create trash. Take your own container and ask the dive shop to refill it when necessary.
  • Organize your friends and colleagues with projects of cleaning the reefs, seafloor and beaches where you live and during your next seaside vacations.
  • Never tire of learning and studying. Read and be informed about the reefs so you can convey the message of preservation.
  • Remember not to touch the coral; only observe.
  • If you smoke, when you extinguish your cigarette take the butt with you for proper disposal.
  • If you are aware of any environmental wrongdoing, report it!
  • Eat lionfish.
